The weather may not always live up to the sunny promises of high season, but it’s a perfect reminder of what we’ve always preached: the Sri Lankan South Coast is a year-round destination.
Here are our top tips for making the most of a rainy day during your stay at PALM:
Disconnect and enjoy your holiday read in a hanging chair in the pavilion or curl up in your room, listening to the pitter patter of the raindrops outside.
Top tip: if you forgot your book at home, go to Wild and the Sage in Unawatuna for a top selection of fiction and non fiction books. They also have a cafe and serve great coffee, cake and pastries, so make a morning (or afternoon) of it.
You’re wet anyway, right? And conditions can be beautiful (and less crowded) on a rainy day.
Learn how to make authentic Sri Lankan dishes like hoppers, curries, and sambols in a local home. For an added adventure, head to the market to shop for the ingredients and learn about local produce.
Book a massage or private yoga in the comfort of your own room. For more information and to book, go to our Wellbeing section.
Grab a (PALM) umbrella and explore the nearby “low grown” tea plantation, Handunugoda Tea Estate, and discover the plantation and learn how tea is produced.
Galle Fort can be hot so a rainy or overcast day may be a blessing in disguise for a stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage site.
Pop over to our neighbours Ember and Ice for a sauna and ice bath.
